UCLA Summer Methods Institute 2017

The UCLA Summer Methods Institute presents:

Multilevel Modeling Workshops

For faculty, graduate students, and postdocs
Instructor: Jennifer L. Krull, Ph.D.

Introduction to
Multilevel Modeling

August 7-11, 2017

Advanced Multilevel

August 14-18, 2017

Course content: This introductory workshop will cover the basics of multilevel modeling (also known as hierarchical linear modeling) for individuals nested within groups and growth modeling of longitudinal data.  The advanced workshop will cover selected topics including hierarchical generalized linear models for categorical outcomes, multilevel mediation analysis, multilevel multivariate and measurement models, models for dyadic data, and modeling non-hierarchical data structures.  Other topics may be included based on participant interest. Participants may enroll in either workshop singly or in both workshops consecutively.

Recommended background: Participants in the introductory workshop should be familiar with multiple regression analysis. Participants in the advanced workshop should be familiar with multilevel modeling for individuals nested within groups and/or growth modeling of longitudinal data.

Format: Each day’s instruction (M-Th) will involve approximately 2 1/2 hours of classroom activities in the morning (9:30am to noon) and 2 hours of hands-on computing using HLM and SAS software in the afternoon (1:00pm to 3:00pm). Participants will be able to consult with the instructor and analyze their own data on Friday.

Instructor: Jennifer L. Krull is a Professor of Quantitative Psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles. Her research focuses on the application and extension of the multilevel model in social science data. She has been teaching graduate statistics courses for over 15 years and has been recognized for the quality of her classroom instruction.

Details: The cost of each one-week workshop is $650 per participant. The classroom and computer lab are located in the Psychology Tower and Psychology Building (formerly part of the Franz Hall complex) on the UCLA campus. Pay-per-space parking is available in Structure #2 at a cost of $12.00 per day. The workshops do not carry UCLA course credit.
